'A love of pattern, a passion for
design and an absolute dedication to quality'
Caroline graduated in Textile
Design from Brighton in 1986, and has designed for textile
studios in Europe and America.
She has applied her distinctive style to many applications
- Caroline is so passionate about drawing and mark-making
that any blank surface is, to her, one that is waiting to
be decorated! - but within the last 10 years has acquired
a reputation for her use of architectural glass as a surface.
The technique she employs to decorate the surface of flat
glass is a well used and traditional one. The application
of her wonderfully elaborate, decorative designs gives etched
glass a fresh and contemporary feel.
The versatility of this technique allows her to create opaque
glass with sumptuous patterns in a carved 3d effect for
those areas that you'd rather not expose!
Her semi-transparent decorative
glass adds a beautiful feature to a room and has the additional
exciting effect of projecting the pattern onto surrounding
surfaces under certain light conditions.
In 2002, having exhibited her work extensively in other
galleries around the country, she decided to set up her
own gallery. Celf (the Welsh word for art) was opened in
the village of Mumbles, on the Gower Peninsula.
In 2005 she undertook a collaborative
design project with Michelle Scragg under the name Celf
Design. Together they designed a range of textiles
which have been marketed in Ireland.
Celf Gallery closed in August 2007; running
a high street premises with no work space attached became
impossible to organise along side the other opportunities
that had presented themselves from further afield.
Caroline is now able to focus entirely on her glass commissions.
In 2008 Caroline is commited to exhibit her work in America,
Ireland and at 100% Design, London.
